Safe use of gas in cylinders

To work properly, rationally and safely with butane-propane mixtures or propane, the user must know the basic characteristics of the gas in its liquid or gaseous state. The user must wear the mandatory personal protective equipment when handling the gas.

Employees working with gases must be properly trained in accordance with the requirements of the legal regulations.

Safe replacement and connection of a Plindom gas cylinder

  • Do not smoke while performing the task and avoid contact with open flames.
  • Ensure that the valves on both cylinders are closed.
  • The valve on the new Plindom cylinder is fitted with a thermo-shrinkable foil, which must be removed before use.
  • Remove the old seal from the pressure regulator and insert a new seal, which is provided with the protective PVC nut on the new cylinder. Insert the new seal so that it fits into the groove of the pressure regulator.
  • Use a wrench to screw the pressure regulator with the seal onto the cylinder valve. Be careful not to overtighten the regulator nut, as this could damage the seal.
  • Open the cylinder valve. Check the tightness of the connection between the valve and the pressure regulator using a special spray or soapy water.
  • In case of leakage (if bubbles form at the connection), close the valve and inspect the seal and its seat. Reattach the pressure regulator and check for leaks again.
  • If the connection is still leaking, close the valve, move the cylinder to an open area, and notify the cylinder owner at the toll-free phone number 080 1228 or 080 1248.

Tips for storing and using the cylinder

The following guidelines should be observed when storing and using cylinders safely in companies.

  • Cylinders must be stored in an upright position in a suitable storage area in accordance with the applicable regulations. The storage area must not be lower than the surrounding ground.
  • The layout of the storage site must also take into account all fire safety requirements in accordance with the applicable legislation.
  • The storage area must be well ventilated and within adequate distance from ignition sources.
  • Before replacing the cylinder, the valves on the gas installation and on the cylinder must be closed.
  • When unscrewing the lock nut and unscrewing the old, empty cylinder and screwing the new, full cylinder onto the gas installation, note that there is a left-hand thread on the fitting (unscrew clockwise, screw anticlockwise).
  • Every time the gas cylinder is replaced, the rubber seal of the regulator is replaced and the leak is checked with a special spray or soapy water.
  • All gas appliances for indoor use must be fitted with a thermal protector.
